On April 8, 2024, amidst the tranquil beauty of Bila Bila Falls, a small community nestled near its waters experienced an AKAP giving back activity.
Led by a group of compassionate individuals, an outreach program unfolded in Brgy Canjalon, San Fernando, Sibuyan Island, Romblon. This humble initiative aimed not only to provide essentials like rice, biscuits, and slippers but also to weave threads of hope and kindness into the fabric of the community.
As the sun cast its warm glow over the village, members of AKAP embarked on their mission, eager to connect with the residents of Brgy Canjalon. Amidst the laughter of children and the wisdom of elders, stories began to unfold, revealing the resilient spirit that defines this small but vibrant community.
Among the many encounters, one conversation stands out—a simple yet profound exchange with a young child. Curious about the absence of slippers worn by some at home, the question arose: “Bakit hindi sila nagtsitsinelas kapag nasa bahay lang?” (“Why don’t they wear slippers at home?”) The child’s response struck a chord: “Kasi maluluma agad eh ginagamit daw sa school pagpasok. Para hindi masira at maluma agad.” (“Because they wear them out quickly since they use them for school. So they preserve them to avoid damage.”)
In this seemingly mundane dialogue lies a testament to the resilience and resourcefulness of the community. Despite facing challenges, they find ways to make ends meet, cherishing every resource they have. And as the sun sets on this humble village, its spirit remains undaunted, a beacon of hope for the days to come.
